Redesign or Repair: Which Does Your Website Need?

Open your site on your phone, as a stranger would, and time yourself. If it takes more than a few seconds to load, if you have to zoom to read anything, or if you can't find a way to call in one tap, you already have your answer about the mobile experience.

• Loads in a couple of seconds or less
• Text readable without zooming
• Phone number tappable
• Services current and accurate
• Photos recent and sharp
• Contact form works and reaches you
• Layout doesn't overflow sideways
• Looks comparable to competitors

When updates are enough

If the layout works on a phone and loads acceptably, and the problems are outdated wording, old photos, wrong hours, or missing services, that's maintenance work. It costs a fraction of a redesign and can usually be done within days.

It's also the honest recommendation more often than most designers admit, because a redesign is the bigger sale.

When a redesign is the right call

Rebuild when the underlying layout can't be made to work on a phone, when the platform is abandoned or the subscription is expensive, when the site is genuinely slow no matter what's removed, or when the business has changed enough that the structure no longer matches what you sell.

Also rebuild when nobody can make changes without paying a developer each time. That cost compounds quietly for years.

Protecting what already works

Whichever route you take, keep the pages that already bring visitors. Existing addresses should be preserved or properly redirected, and content that ranks should be carried across rather than deleted. A redesign that ignores this can cost you traffic you spent years earning.
